Even as a child my imagination created life from familiar objects. One was the Gumball machine. They guarded entrances to grocery stores, 5 & 10's, drug stores and department stores. Some worked for charity and some for profit. There were groups of them offering a variety of candy or toys. The majority worked alone. They were simple with no flashing lights, bells or whistles. All they needed was a simple penny to urge them to send a ball of gum down the shoot, bounce against the metal flap and drop into your waiting palm.
I wondered what their home life was like. Here is my homage to the gumball machine
